INGREDIENTS

  • Beetroot grated – 1 cup
  • Cooked or leftover rice – 2 or 3 cup
  • Onion finely chopped – 1
  • Green chilli chopped – 2
  • Ginger + garlic – 1 tsp
  • Oil + ghee – 1 tbsp
  • Garam masala few  – 1 tsp jeera + 1 bay leaf + small cinnamon piece + 1 cardamom + 1 clove + 1 star anise .
  • salt to taste
  • Finely chopped coriander for garnish

PREPARATION

Grate the beetroot .

METHOD

Heat oil + ghee ,add whole garam masala and let it crackle.[never burn garam masala]

Add onion + green chilli  and fry till translucent.

Add ginger garlic paste and fry till raw smell leaves.

Lower the flame.

Add the beet root and stir fry for 2 mins  .[don’t overcook ]

Adjust salt .

Add the cooked rice and mix well.

Cover and cook for 1 min.

Once the rice gets completely coated with the masalas ,off the flame .

Garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve with any side dish .

NOTES

  1. Such recipes are good for kids who are fussy about eating veges, you can try with other veges also.Refer to my other rice recipes.
  2. You can cook in other styles also like – fried rice,phodni bhaat,lemon rice etc …you just have to add beetroot.
  3. You can add other veges together like peas ,potato,beans ,corn etc
  4. You can aslo give a variation by adding chole masala or pav bhaji masala or sambar pwdr or biryani masala pwdr instead of garam masala pwdr
  5. While tempering you can add few whole garam masala
  6. I have used cooked rice,you can cook it together.
