Curd rice is the best meal to eat for indigestion or diarrhoea because curd is a great source of probiotic. Consuming curd rice helps to restore healthy microbial balance which, in turn, helps in better digestion.

Curd rice is extremely light, easy to make, and delicious and works as a great dish for weight loss. The good bacteria in the curd help in aiding digestion and keep the stomach light.

CURD RICE RECIPE / THAYIR SADAM

INGREDIENTS

  • Rice – 100 gms or half a cup
  • Warm Milk – ½ cup
  • Curd – 1 cup
  • Grated carrot – 1 or 2 tbsp
  • Grated cucumber – 1 or 2 tbsp
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds + urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Green chilli finely chopped – 1 or as per taste
  • Asafoetida – ¼ tsp
  • Ginger grated – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves few
  • Few broken cashew or peanuts
  • Red chilli – 1
  • Finely chopped coriander for garnish
  • Salt as per taste.

PREPARATION

Clean ,wash ,rinse the rice .Pressure cook the rice till soft. Once done mash it with a masher.

METHOD

Take the cooled mashed rice in a big bowl

Add milk to the mashed rice, mix it well with clean hands.

Add curd and again mix it well.

Add salt + carrot + cucumber + ginger + chilli + curry leaves + coriander leaves and mix well .

Heat oil in a pan .

Add mustard seeds + urad dal and let it crackle .

Add cashew and red chilli and fry .

Add asafoetida and stir.

Add this tempering  into the curd rice and mix well.

Serve warm or even chilled with any side dish.

Goes well with home made instant pickles.

NOTES

  1. Can be used as travel food. In that case use more of milk and less of curd .
  2. You can add veges like , raw mango, pomegranate  , grapes or raisins.
  3. Quantity of milk and curd can be adjusted as per your taste.may more of milk less of curd or less of milk and more of curd .
  4. Don’t add the curd when the rice is hot.
  5. While tempering you can also use red chilli,urad dal and chana dal.
