INGREDIENTS

  • Cooked dal – 1 cup [ tuvar or masoor or moong ]
  • Butter + olive oil – 1 tbsp
  • Garlic chopped – 2 or 3
  • Slice onion – 1 onion
  • Pepper pwdr as per taste
  • Stock or plain water as per the consistency you want
  • Fresh cream – 1 tbsp
  • Grated cheese – 1 tbsp [ optional ]
  • Chopped coriander leaves or spring onion greens for garnish [optional ]
  • Salt as needed

PREPARATION – Soak dal for 20 – 30 mins . Pressure cook it with salt till it is soft. [ if required add little turmeric pwdr ]

Cool it and blend it into a fine paste.

METHOD

Heat the butter in a pan , add the garlic and saute .

Add the onions and fry till light brown.

Add the dal and  mix well .

Add the stock or plain water as per the consistency you want .

Add pepper pwdr + salt and mix well.

Allow it to boil for  1 – 2 mins on medium flame .

Add grated cheese + fresh cream and mix well .

Off the flame and transfer to  a serving bowl .

Garnish with coriander /spring onion greens .

Serve hot with any type of toasted bread. [ I have used pav ]

Variation – You can fry the garlic and onion then add soaked dal . Stir fry for 2 mins .Add water + salt and pressure cook it till soft. Allow it to cool. Blend it into a fine paste .Add water or stock according to the consistency you want and adjust pepper pwdr + salt . Boil it for few minutes  . Add cream + cheese mix well .Garnish and serve .

How to prepare stock at home –  [ adust quantity as per your requirement ]

Boil 7 cup of water , add chopped  onion + carrot + potato or any other veg.

Boil it till the stock reduces to 5 cups. Strain the stock and use it .

OR

Use maggi veg or non veg magic cubes . Disslove it in hot water and use it .

NOTES

  1. You can use any dal , actually I have used white peas . [ leftover dal which I made for pani puri ] .
  2. Y not add chilli flakes .
  3. Butter enhances the flavour .
  4. Let it be of medium consistency not very thick or very thin.
  5. You can prepare stock at home or use maggi magic cubes to prepare the stock.
  6. Stock enhances the flavour of soups .
  7. I have not added tomato or it would just taste like a dal curry.
