Jamun helps in the proper functioning of the digestive system due to its extremely soothing and cooling effect. Jamuns are low on calories, which makes them the perfect healthy snack. They also aid digestion and promote natural bowel movement. Jamun juice has bioactive phytochemicals that minimise the risk of liver disease and cancer. They are also known to be effective in treatment of diabetes

INGREDIENTS

  • Kala jamun – 15 nos
  • Sugar – 2 or 3 tbsp depending on the sweetness of the fruit and your taste
  • Chilled water – 1 or ½ cup or as per the consistency you want
  • Roasted jeera powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Chaat masala – 1/2 tsp
  • Fresh mint leaves – 8 – 10 [ optional ]
  • Ginger – small piece [ optional ]
  • Lemon juice – 1  tbsp or as per taste

METHOD

Wash the fruit and discard the seeds.

Grind the flesh of the fruit + sugar + mint leaves + ginger .

Add water and blend again. roughly around 2 cups.

Strain the juice through a strainer .[optional]

Add chaat masala + jeera pwdr + lemon juice and mix well.

Serve chilled juice.

Jamun, or black plum (nerale hannu in Kannada), is liked by many for its unique taste. But beyond that, the fruit has immense health benefits. Jamun is rich in protein, fibre, antioxidants, calcium, iron, phosphorous, potassium, manganese, vitamin C and B6 and several other nutrients.

NOTES

  1. You can add ice cubes.
  2. Take powdered sugar + little chaat masala in a plate . Rub the rim of the glass with lemon juice or plain water. Dip the rim of the glass on the sugar so that the rim gets coated with it.
  3. The same juice you can put it in a ice stick mould or kulfi mould ,freeze it and your ice lolly will be ready. –Kala jamun fruit popsicle
  4. Water quantity depends on how strong you want the taste .

Jamun juice acts as a natural astringent and is used as a mouthwash, as it eliminates bad breath.The pulp of this fruit is used in the treatment of gingivitis (bleeding gums).
