MASALA CHAI

INGREDIENTS FOR CHAI MASALA

  • Dry ginger /soonth – 100gms
  • Cardamom – 50 gms
  • Black pepper – 15 or 20 gms
  • Cinnamon – 15 or 20 gms
  • Nutmeg – a small piece or optional

***** adjust quantity of each as per your taste .

PREPARATION

Sun dry the whole garam masala .[optional ]

Transfer to a small mixer jar and grind it into a fine powder .

Chai masala is ready .

Store it in a airtight container and use it whenever required .

*****1/4 tsp or  a generous pinch is enough for 2 cup of tea

INGREDIENTS FOR CHAI

  • Water – 1 cup
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Tea leaves – 2 1/2 tsp
  • Sugar – 5 or 6 tsp or as per taste
  • Chai masala – 1/4 tsp or a generous pinch

METHOD

Boil water in a sauce pan ,add tea leaves + chai masala + sugar .

Boil it on medium low flame for 2 mins.So that all ingredients blend well .

Boil till all the flavour infuses in water .

Now add the milk and boil on low flame for 1min.

Off the flame ,filter and serve .

**** sugar can be added before or while serving .

GINGER CARDAMOM TEA

INGREDIENTS

  • Water – 1 cup
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Tea leaves – 2 1/2 tsp
  • Sugar – 5 or 6 tsp or as per taste
  • Ginger crushed or grated – 1 tbsp
  • Cardamom crushed – 1 or 2

METHOD

Boil it on medium low flame for 2 mins.So that all ingredients blend well .

VARIATION – we can also make mint tea .Just add 5 or 6 mint leaves .

NOTES

  1. ***** When we add sugar while serving ,then the sugar required is less ,compared to when we boil together .
  2. Quantity of milk and water can be adjusted as per taste . Whether you want thick [kadak ]or thin chai .
  3. Always drink freshly prepared tea,if you reheat – it tastes differnet .
  4. The amount of tea leaves depends the which brand you are using and how strong you want the chai .
