INGREDIENTS

  • Rice – ¾ cup
  • Moong Dal – ¼ cup
  • Palak puree – made from 1 bunch of palak
  • Onion finely chopped – 1
  • Tomato finely chopped – 1
  • Garam masala – ½ tsp [ optional
  • Red chilli pwdr – 1 tsp or as required
  • Turmeric pwdr – ½ tsp
  • Oil + ghee – 1 ½ tbsp
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste

PREPARATION

  1. Clean ,wash and chop the palak roughly. Cook in hot water for 4 mins. Allow it to cool and blend into fine puree without adding water.
  2. Roast the dal in ghee for sometime .[colour should not change ]
  3. Clean ,wash and soak the rice + dal for 20 mins .

METHOD

Heat oil + ghee in a pan add jeera and let it crackle .

Add onion and fry till translucent .

Add tomatoes and  fry till soft and oil separates .

Add chilli pwdr + garam masala + turmeric + salt and fry

Add the puree , mix well and cook for a min .

Add the soaked rice + dal and mix well till it is coated well and cook for few seconds.

Add 2 ¼ cup of water ,cover and cook on medium flame till the rice becomes soft and water evaporates .

Drizzle hot ghee and Serve hot with any side dish and salad + papad + pickle + curd.

 NOTES

  1. U can use any rice ,I have used basmati .
  2. Instead of palak puree ,you can finely chop the palak and saute it for 1 minute till it shrinks.
  3. U can also pressure cook it .
  4. U can take ½ of rice and ½ of dal .
  5. Roasting the dal in ghee adds more aroma.
  6. Adjust water as per the consistency you want .- for dry version the above quantity is enough or u can add 3 cup of water .
  7. U can give a tadka of garlic in ghee in the end to enhance the flavour .
