BROAD BEANS / PAPDI KI SABJI /AVARAKKAI 

INGREDIENTS

  • Broad beans – 250 gms
  • Onion chopped – 1
  • Tomato chopped – 1
  • Curry leaves – few [optional ]
  • Turmeric pwdr – ¼ tsp
  • Chilli pwdr – 1 tsp or as per taste
  • Coriander pwdr – 2 tsp
  • Salt as per atste
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds + jeera – 2 tsp
  • Peanut pwdr – 3 or 4 tbsp
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves for garnish.

PREPARATION         

  1. Wash , pat dry and String the beans . Split it and chop it as shown in the pic or chop it as you desire.
  2. Dry roast the peanuts ,remove the skin and grind it to a coarse pwdr.

METHOD

Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds + jeera , let it crackle .

Add the onions + curry leaves and saute till light brown .

Add tomatoes and fry till it becomes soft and mushy .

Add chilli pwdr + turmeric + coriander pwdr + salt and stir fry for few secomds till raw smell leaves .

Add the chopped beans and mix well.

Sprinkle little water ,cover and cook till it becomes soft .

Keep stirring in between and sprinkle water if required .

Once done ,add the peanut pwdr mix well and sir fry for few seconds.

Off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve as a side dish for ric or chapatti.

NOTES

  1. You can also add garam masala or sambar masala pwdr for variation.
  2. Instead of peanut ,you can add freshly grated coconut OR don’t add both.
  3. Peanut pwdr gives a nice texture to the sabji .
