Raw banana kebabs

RAW BANANA KEBABS / CUTLETS / CROQUETTE

INGREDIENTS

  • Raw banana – 2
  • Potato – 1
  • Very finely chopped onion – ½ cup
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves – 2 or 3 tbsp
  • Green chilly + garlic+ ginger paste – 2 tsp
  • Garam masala – ½ tsp
  • Turmeric – ¼ tsp [ optional ]
  • Chaat masala – ½ tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Kasoori methi pwdr – ½ or 1 tsp optional]
  • Cashew and raisins chopped – 2 tbsp [ optional ]
  • Bread slice – 1 or 2
  • Corn flour slurry – 2 tbsp corn flour mixed with 4 tbsp water
  • Bread crumbs as required
  • Oil to deep or shallow fry
  • Sauce or chutney to serve

PREPARATION

  1. Trim off the top and bottom of the banana . Pressure cook raw banana + potato upto 2 whistles.[ don’t over cook ]
  2. Once it cools , peel of the skin of both .Mash it with a masher .

METHOD

Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl or plate.

Add onion + coriander leaves + ginger garlic + chilli paste + garam masala + turmeric + chaat masala + salt + kasoori methi pwdr + dry fruits and mix well with clean hands.

Check the consistency of the dough – it has to be thick .

Wet the bread slightly by drizzling few drops of water .[ 1 or 2 slices depending on the consistency – I just added 1 ]

Tear it roughly and add .Once again mix well.

Divide the mixture into equal portions and roll it into smooth balls .

Now give desired shapes to it or use it as balls. If time permits ,you can refrigerate or continue .

Dip the kebabs in cornflour mixture and roll it over the bread crumbs .The crumbs should cover the kebabs evenly on all sides. [ we can refrigerate these kebabs without frying and use it when required upto 2 days ]

Repeat with all kebabs . Again if time permits , you can refrigerate for sometime ,else continue .Refrigerating helps in hardening .

Deep fry it till golden on all sides .

Serve hot with any sauces / dips /chutneys .

NOTES

  1. You can also shallow fry it .
  2.  I also added little rava with the bread crumBS
  3. U can fry it in appe pans .
  4. Y not try the same recipe with arbi / suran [yam ]
  5. We are using bread as a binding agent ,instead u can use roasted besan .
  6. You can use these kebabs to make kofta gravy.
  7. You can avoid potato.
  8. Don’t over cook .For me 2 whistles were enough .
