Red coconut chutney recipe

                                                                                                           RED COCONUT CHUTNEY

INGREDIENTS

  • Freshly grated coconut – ½ cup
  • Roasted gram or daria dal or bhuna dal or fried gram dal – 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli – 4 or as per taste
  • Garlic – 2 cloves
  • Tamarind – small piece
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds + urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few

METHOD

Grind coconut +  daria dal + red chillies + tamarind + garlic + salt  to medium fine paste [not very fine] by adding water.

Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds + urad dal , once the dal changes colour add curry leaves and off the flame.

Add this tempering  over the chutney and mix well.

NOTES

  1. Texture depends on your choice whether coarse or fine .
  2. i have added more chillies as i had used kashmiri red chillies.
  3. Quantity of water depends on what consistency ,you want the chutney to be.
  4. Never boil the chutney.
  5. Dont use stale or old grated coconut,it will give oily flavour.
  6. Dont use brown scrapings of the coconut.
  7. Use freshly grated coconut.
  8. Always use warm water to grind
