How to store green peas for a year




Fresh Green peas of good quality


  1. Shell the green peas .[ time consuming job ]
  2. Do it in batches or take help .

Here I have stored 25 kgs .it took me and 2 helpers 5 hrs to shell .

METHOD 1   [ I have used this method ]

Bring a big pot of water to boil .

**You can add 2 tsp of sugar for 1 kg green peas .[Optional ]

Once it starts boiling off the flame .

Add the shelled peas and blanch  for 2  mins . [not more than 2 minutes]

Remove the peas in the colander and pass cold water through it to stop further cooking .

Drain off all the excess water completely.

Quickly start packing the peas .Dont keep out at room temperature for long time .

Pack it in resealable bags /air tight containers .

If packing in bags remove the excess air before sealing .

Store it in the deep  freezer .


Wipe the green peas and store it in air tight containers or zip lock pouches in freezer  .

When ever required remove as much as required and put in hot water and use it in any recipes .


  1. Now you can try different recipes all year around .
  2. Try packing small small pkts .
  3. Adding sugar is optional – they say it enhances the colour .
  4. Similarly you can store few other veges also .
