SWEET JAGGERY APPE WITHOUT FERMENTATION  /INSTANT RICE JAGGERY APPE RECIPE

Sweet jaggery appe

INGREDIENTS

  • Raw rice – 1 cup
  • Freshly grated coconut – ¼ cup
  • Jaggery chopped – 1 cup or as per taste
  • Cardamom pwdr – a generous pinch
  • Ripe banana – 1
  • Cooking soda – 1/8 tsp
  • Ghee to fry
  • Fried cashew nut pieces or coconut pieces – 2 or 3 tbsp

PREPARATION

Clean ,wash ,rinse and soak the rice for 4 to 5 hrs .

Heat jaggery + little water .Melt the jaggery and strain it .

METHOD

Drain the excess water from the soaked rice and grind it with the grated coconut without water .

Now add the banana and grind to a thick paste .

Now add the syrup and grind to blend all the ingredients well .

Transfer the batter to a bowl and add elaichi pwdr + cashew nuts [+ cooking soda and mix well.

Heat the appe pan and add 1 tsp ghee in each hole .[ the appe has to be fried in the ghee so don’t add less ]

Now pour the batter in each hole .

Cover and cook for 1 or 2 mins .

Flip it with a skewer stick . [ after flipping if there is less ghee then add fewdrops of ghee ]

Again cook it for 2 mins till golden brown .

Remove and serve .

NOTES

  1. As I have made it instant ,without fermenting ,I had to use baking soda.Baking soda is a must for this recipe .It makes the appe light ,fluffy and cooks from inside .
  2. I forgot to click the pic while adding coconut .
  3. Also I tried adding 1 tbsp urad dal to the rice while soaking.
  4. The batter should not be watery .
  5. U can try the same recipe with wheat flour .
  6. If you don’t have appe pan then ,you can fry it like malpua .
  7. You can avoid banana.As I added banana the batter was changing colour .
  8. You can also ferment the batter for sometime.
