                 TANGY PRAWNS CURRY   [ WITHOUT COCONUT ]

Tangy prawns curry without coconut

INGREDIENTS .

  • Prawns – 250 gms [ 20 nos]
  • Onion – 1
  • Tomato – 2
  • Green chilli – 1 or 2 slit
  • Chilli pwdr – 2 tsp or as per taste
  • Coriander pwdr – 3 tsp
  • Garam masala – ¼ tsp
  • Turmeric pwdr – ½ tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Tamarind – lemon size or as per the sourness you want
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Salt as per taste

METHOD

Clean the prawns by removing the shell and veins. Wash it well . Marinate it with little salt and turmeric pwdr and keep aside for marination.

Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of warm or hot water and extract the juice . [ microwave for 30 secs ]

Heat oil , add mustard seed and allow it to crackle .

Add fenugreek seeds and fry  for few seconds .[ don’t burn it ]

Add   curry leaves + onion + green chilli , fry till translucent .

Add tomatoes + salt and cook till oile separates .

Add turmeric + chilli pwdr + coriander pwdr + garam masala + salt and fry till raw smell leaves.

add tamarind juice and cook for 2 mins.

Add 2 cupp water and cook for 5 mins .

Add the marinated prawns and mix well.

Cook for 10 mins , till the prawns are cooked and the gravy thickens and oil floats on the top.

Never over cook prawns else it becomes rubbery .

Garnish with curry leaves or coriander leaves.

Serve hot .

NOTES

  1. Adjust water  as per the consistency you want thick or thin.
  2. Soak the tamarind in hot water for sometime and then extract the juice.
  3. Add masalas as per your taste.
  4. Non veg taste better , when spicy.
  5. I have made paste of onion + tomato + ginger garlic paste , you can also chop finely and add.
  6. Instead of regular onions try shallots for more taste.
  7. You can reduce tamarind and add raw mangoes.
  8. You can also add any veges like potato or drumstick.
  9. Add 3 – 4 big green chilli whole .
  10. You can fry the prawns till half cooked and add.
  11. Use coconut oil for more flavour.
