How to store mango pulp for a year

One of the best ways to eat fruits off season is to preserve them for a long time meaning freeze them. You can freeze mangoes in slices or as mango pulp.

NUTRIENT LEVELS REMAIN FAIRLY STABLE AFTER FREEZING.

Making mango pulp is super easy and tastes of course way better than the store bought mango pulp.

Commercially available Mango pulp packed in cans and vacuum bags tends to taste less fresh and come with an un-pure mango flavour, because of added chemical preservatives. The lowest mango quality grade is used in commercially available mangoes.

Homemade pure Mango pulp tastes so much better and you know what’s in it.

How to store mango pulp for a year

MANGO PULP RECIPE – 

INGREDIENTS

  • Good quality alphonso mango or any – 2  kgs  or any amount [ ripe but firm ]

METHOD

Wash and wipe the mangoes.

Peel the mango and chop it , discard the seeds.

Transfer the mango cubes + cubes  to mixie jar and blend into smooth puree.

Don’t add water or sugar .

Use small  zip lock packs or air tight containers to store .

Close the bag well – removing as much air as possible.

Label with the current date

Freeze it and use.

HOW TO USE

Remove required amount whenever needed, thaw at room temperature for some time and then use . Once thawed, you can refrigerate the pulp for few hours.

*Do not re-freeze it.

HOW TO STORE RIPE OR RAW MANGO PIECES .

Take ripe mango pieces without skin / raw mango slices  ,arrange on a plate / tray ,each piece should not touch other cube. The pieces should not touch each other so that they freeze individually. Keep in freezer to freeze for 4 to 5 hrs hours till they freeze  .Once the mango pieces freeze , collect them in ziplock pouch or airtight container , label with the current date and return them to the freezer

*No need to peel raw mango.

 NOTE

  1. Do not re-freeze any of them once thawed at room temperature. Take out the required amount and immediately freeze the remaining
  2. Similarly we can store raw mango also .just slice it lengthwise .
  3. If you want to store lot of pulp in big containers ,then add 1 or 2 tbsp sugar per mango and blend .It becomes easy to scoop if store in big containers.
  4. Use ripe but firm mangoes – very important
  5. Sometimes a batch of very ripe mangoes is sold at a very low price, that’s when you use your smartness and buy the mangoes and turn them into a pulp and store it for a year .
  6. You can use bigger or smaller bags, I prefer the smaller ones, batch-wise because it’s easier to defrost when I want to use only smaller quantities.
  7. Also vacuum zip-lock bags are easy to use, just open and use, and keep the mango pulp in perfect condition in the freezer.
  8. It’s more hygienic too and you will find that storing filled zip-lock bags will save you space in your freezer, compared to Tupperware boxes.
