VATANA CURRY RECIPE/ WHITE PEA RECIPE

INGREDIENTS
- Dry white peas , washed and soaked overnight – ½ cup
- Onions finely chopped – 1
- Tomato finely chopped – 1
- Ginger garlic paste- 1 tsp
- Bay leaf- 1 big
- Cumin seeds -1 tsp
- Asafoetida – Pinch
- Garam Masala powder – ½ tsp
- Coriander powder -1 tsp
- Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp
- Red chilli powder- 1 tsp or as per taste
- Oil – 1 tsp
- Chopped coriander
- Salt to taste
METHOD
Either pressure cook or co cook the soaked peas with water + salt + little turmeric till soft .[ don’t overcook ]
Heat oil in a pan and crackle the jeera .
Add onion + curry leaves + green chilli and stir fry till translucent .
Add ginger garlic paste and stir fry till raw smell leaves .
Add the tomato + salt and cook till oil separates .
Now add red chilli powder + turmeric + coriander powder + garam masala and stir fry for few seconds.
Now add the cooked peas and mix well.
Add water as per the consistency you want .
Simmer on low flame for few mins and off the flame.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with rice or roti.
NOTES –
Please note that the boiling time would differ based on the quality of matar and kind of pressure cooker. But it takes approximately 7 to 8 minutes from the time pressure sets in.
How to cook in a pressure cooker- Place the cooker with the contents on a high flame till the pressure sets in (indicated by a hissing sound once the steam starts to form); then reduce the flame to low and let cook for 5-7 minutes till done .
