CHOCOLATE COATED MURMURA CHIKKI / LADOO

Murmura Chikki is a crispy and tasty chikki aka bars made using puffed rice or murmura and jaggery is a must when celebrating Lohri.

Murmura Chikki- Makar Sankranti is tomorrow and its a custom to make some crispy or chikki on Sankarati . Chikki’s are made with so many things ,you can make chikki with sesame seeds, peanuts ,daaliya, coconut, nuts and with Murmura.

These chikki are enjoyed during whole winter season and they were very easily available in the market on small thelaas or you can find street hawkers selling these on the road and streets.

CHOCOLATE COATED MURMURA CHIKKI / LADOO

INGREDIENTS

  • Puffed rice / murmura – 1 cup
  • Sugar – ¼ cup
  • Rose essence – ¼ tsp
  • Ghee – ½ tsp
  • Any shaped mould
  • Melted chocolate

PREPARATION

  1. Dry roast the murmura on low flame till crisp .[ hot to touch ]
  2. Colour of the murmura should not change .

METHOD

Heat a heavy bottom pan with sugar + ghee.

Cook on medium flame till it gets lightly caramelised .

Colour should not change much .

Off the flame ,add the essence and mix.

Immediately add the murmura and mix well ,till they are coated well with the sugar .

Take a spoonful and fill the greased moulds .

Press it gently to level it from all sides and remove .

Be quick at shaping all the mixture ,else the mixture hardens immediately .

*** If not having moulds ,you can make circles or any other shapes or even ladoos .

Allow the chikkis to cool .

Mean while melt chocolate in microwave or double boiler method .

Once done dip the murmura chikki fully or half in the melted chocolate  .

Allow the chocolate to set .

Now decorate with melted chocolate piping or drizzle any edible sprinklers .

IMP TIP – As the mixture thickens / hardens fast ,you can keep it over simmering hot water , to maintain the temperature of the mixture .
