Cabbage dal
CABBAGE DAL
INGREDIENTS
- Chopped cabbage – 3 cup
- Toor dal – ¼ cup
- Turmeric – ¼ tsp
- Freshly grated coconut – ¼ cup
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Sambar pwdr – 1 tbsp
- Oil – 1tbsp
- Mustard seeds + urad dal – 1 ½ tsp
- Curry leaves -few
- Asafetida – a pinch
- Finely chopped coriander leaves for garnish
- Salt to taste
PREPARATION
- Chop the cabbage .
- Clean ,wash ,rinse and soak the dal for 30 mins .
- Pressure cook the soaked dal + cabbage + salt + turmeric + 1 cup water upto 3 whistles
- Make a fine paste of coconut + jeera + sambar pwdr . [ u can also add little chilli pwdr / green chilli if ur sambar pwdr is not spicy ]
METHOD
Once the pressure of the cooker releases ,open and mix – No need to mash .
Add the coconut paste + 1 cup water and mix well .
Heat oil in a pan ,add mustard seeds + urad dal and let it crackle .
Add asafoetida + curry leaves + red chilli and stir .
Add the dal and mix well. Adjust salt if required .
Simmer on low flame for a minute .
Garnish with coriander leaves and off the flame
Serve as side dish for chapatti as well as rice .
NOTES
U can try this recipe with many veges like bottle gourd / snake gourd / pumpkin / tinda /ridge gourd / pointed gourd etc.
