CABBAGE DAL

INGREDIENTS

  • Chopped cabbage – 3 cup
  • Toor dal – ¼ cup
  • Turmeric – ¼ tsp
  • Freshly grated coconut – ¼ cup
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Sambar pwdr – 1 tbsp
  • Oil – 1tbsp
  • Mustard seeds + urad dal – 1 ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves -few
  • Asafetida – a pinch
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste

PREPARATION

  1. Chop the cabbage .
  2. Clean ,wash ,rinse and soak the dal for 30 mins .
  3. Pressure cook the soaked dal + cabbage + salt + turmeric + 1 cup water upto 3 whistles
  4. Make a fine paste of coconut + jeera + sambar pwdr . [ u can also add little chilli pwdr / green chilli  if ur sambar pwdr is not spicy ]

METHOD

Once the pressure of the cooker releases ,open and mix – No need to mash .

Add the coconut paste + 1 cup water and mix well .

Heat oil in a pan ,add mustard seeds + urad dal and let it crackle .

Add asafoetida + curry leaves + red chilli and stir .

Add the dal and mix well. Adjust salt if required .

Simmer on low flame for a minute .

Garnish with coriander leaves and off the flame

Serve as side dish for chapatti as well as rice .
