Mutton kofta curry RECIPE

Mutton Kofta is a simple yet delicious delight for meat lovers.   Keeme Ja Bhalla recipe is a traditional Sindhi Mutton dish that is finger licking good. Mutton keema is shaped into balls and cooked in a scrumptious bhuna masala of fried onions and tomatoes. Serve it with some bhuga chawal for a satisfying Sunday meal.

Non veg kofta curry (Indian meatball curry) is prepared with either with mutton or chicken mince with the addition of spices. The meatballs are slow-cooked in succulent onion tomato gravy. This can be served with rotis or rice.

INGREDIENTS FOR THE MEAT BALLS

  • 250 grams Mutton Kheema
  • Garlic – 7 OR 8
  • Ginger – small piece
  • Green Chillies – 2
  • Onion – 1 small
  • Coriander leaves – ½ cup
  • Khus khus poppy seeds – 1 tsp
  • Salt
  • Turmeric – ¼ tsp
  • Chilli pwdr – ½ tsp

INGREDIENTS FOR GRAVY

  • Oil – 2 or 3 tbsp
  • Garlic – 10
  • Ginger – 1 inch piece
  • 2 Onions fried
  • ½ cup tomato  puree [ 2 tomatoes]
  • Jeera – ½ tsp
  • Khus khus – 1 tsp
  • Cardamom – 2
  • Red Chilli powder – 11/2 or 2 or tsp or as per taste
  • Salt
  • Garam masala pwdr – 1 tsp
  • Coriander Powder – 2 tsp
  • Turmeric – ¼ tsp
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves for garnish

PREPARATION

  1. Clean wash ,rinse the kheema in several water and keep it a colander to drain off excess water .
  2. Transfer all the ingredients mentioned in the first list and grind into coarse mixture. Transfer to a bowl and keep aside till use . [ don’t make fine paste ]
  3. Make a fine paste of fried onions + tomato +  ginger + garlic + red chilli pwdr + turmeric + garam masala pwdr + coriander pwdr .

METHOD

Heat 2 to 3 tbsp oil in a cooker .

Add the ground onion paste + salt and mix well .

Cover partly and cook for 5 mins till oil separates. [ stir in between ]

Lower the flame , make small small balls of kheema and place it.

Don’t stir .

Now add ½ cup water , cover and cook for  2 or 3 whistles .

Off the flame and let the pressure release .

Open the cooker .

The koftas will hold shape .

again keep it on medium flame .

Add tomato  puree and mix well .

Cook till oil separates

Now add ½ cup water give a gentle mix .

Pressure cook for 2 whistles .

Turn off the flame let the pressure release .

Give a nice mix.

Transfer the Keeme Ja Bhalla a serving bowl and serve hot.

Serve Keeme Ja Bhalla along with Phulka  / Sindhi Bhuga Chawal  .
