Steamed spicy cabbage cake / cabbage bhanole /kobiche bhanole
STEAMED SPICY CABBAGE CAKE / CABBAGE BHANOLE /KOBICHE BHANOLE

INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup cabbage grated or finely chopped
- 1 big onion finely chopped
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
- 1 1/2 cups besan
- Rice flour – 2 tbsp
- ½ tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp asafoetida powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 3/4 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
- 2 tsp ginger garlic green chilli paste
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- Oil 1 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Sugar / jaggery pwdr – 1 tsp
- ½ cup coconut milk or Water as required
METHOD
Grease a plate .
Take finely chopped cabbage in a large plate .
Add all the other ingredients one by one and mix well [ except for water ]
Add coconut milk or water and mix into a thick idli batter like consistency.
Adjust besan and water accordingly if required .
Mix it well with clean hands.
Cover and keep aside for 10 to 15 mins.
Pour it in the greased plate and steam it for 15 to 20 minutes depending on the width of the plate .
Just check by inserting a knife or toothpick , if it comes clean it means it is done.
Allow it to cool.
Take a sharp knife and cut it into desired shape.
Either shallow fry or deep fry on both sides till crisp and golden .
Serve as starter or snacks with chutney /sauce /dips of your choice .

NOTES
In authentic recipe ,they bake the mixture or cook it like we cook handvo. For that the mixture has to be of thick consistency.
Also authentically they use coconut milk .
We can bake in oven also at 180 * for 30 to 35 mins till the toothpick comes clean.
