Stir fry chana dal
CHANA DAL STIR FRY / CHANA DAL SUNDAL
INGREDIENTS
- Chana dal – 1 cup
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Red chilli – 3 broken
- Freshly grated coconut – 3 or 4 tbsp
- Mustard seed + urad dal – 1 ½ tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Asafoetida – a generous pinch
- Salt to taste
PREPARATION
- Clean , pick ,wash and rinse the dal.
- Soak it for minimum 2 hours or more.
- Pressure cook the dal with salt for 1 or 2 whistles OR boil 4 cup of water + salt and add the soaked the chana dal and cook till soft [ 8 – 10 mins ]
- Don’t overcook it ,the dal has to be soft and whole not mushy.[ better to cook in open pan than in cooker ]
- Drain the excess water and keep aside.
METHOD
Heat oil in a pan add the mustard seeds + urad dal and fry for few seconds till seeds crackle and dal becomes light brown.
Add curry leaves + red chilli + asafoetida and fry.
Add the cooked and mix well.
Adjust salt if required .
Add grated coconut and stir fry for a minute.
You can garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves also .
Serve hot.
NOTES
- Try cooking in pan instead of pressure cooker.
- I had soaked it for 5 hrs .
- Instead of red chilli ,you can add chopped green chilli .
- Y not add 1 tsp of grated ginger.
- Soaking is must ,it save cooking time.
- Using coconut oil enhances the flavour.
