DRUMSTICK MILK  CURRY / MULAKKADALA RASAM

INGREDIENTS

  • Drumstick – 250 grms
  • White sesame seeds – 4 tbsp
  • Rice four – 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Green chilli – 3 or 4 or as per taste
  • Milk – ½ cup boiled and cooled
  • Salt –
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal – 1 ½ tsp
  • Red chilli – 2
  • Asafoetida – a generous pinch
  • Water 3 cup
  • Sugar – 1 tsp
  • Salt

PREPARATION

Dry roast the sesame seeds + mustard seeds on low flame till aromatic . [ colour should not change ]

Allow to cool and transfer to mixie jar .

Grind it into fine powder first  , then add milk and grind into fine paste .[ don’t add water ]

METHOD

Chop the ends off the drumstick , string it . Cut into 2 inch pieces.

Boil 3 cup of water with salt + sugar .

Add the drumstick to the water and cook covered for 5 to 7 minutes or till the drumstick is just cooked.

Let the remaining water be in the pan .

Add the paste and mix well see that there are no lumps .

Stir and cook for 5 mins on medium flame .

If the gravy is thick adjust by adding milk .

Once done the gravy will become smooth and creamy .Off the flame .

Heat a pan with oil .

Add urad dal + red chilli and stir fry till dal is fried .

Add asafoetida ,give a mix and pour the tempering over the gravy .

Serve hot with rice .

NOTE

  1. Same recipe can be tried with other veges like doodhi etc ..
  2. It is a mild sweet gravy . If you want you can avoid sugar .
  3. Do not overcook the drumstick. If you do, it will fall apart and all you will find is the stringy outer part.
