Raw mango onion soup
RAW MANGO ONION / RASAM / SOUP / TOHA
Recipe by Kavita Namdev . [ Grannys recipe from Chhattisgarh ]
INGREDIENTS
- Raw mango – 1
- Onion – 1 small
- Green chillies – 2 or 3 or as per taste
- Coriander leaves – 1/4 or 1/2 cup
- Garlic – 2
- Oil /ghee – 1 tsp
- Jeera – 1/2 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Jaggery – 1/4 tsp [optional ]
METHOD
Grind coriander leaves + garlic + green chilli into fine paste by adding little water.
Slice the mango into big pieces with skin ,we also need the seed.
Remove the skin of the onion and cut into 4. [don’t separate ]
Pressure cook the mango slices + mango seeds + onion upto 3 or 4 whistles.
Allow the pressure to release.
Mash and scrape of the pulp from the skin and discard it .
Add the coriander leaves paste + salt + jaggery and mix well.
Adjust water if required .
Not very watery or very thick – soup texture.
Heat oil in a small pan , add jeera and let it splutter .
Add the mango mixture and mix well .
Simmer for few seconds and off the flame.
Serve hot with steamed rice with any side dish Or have it plain like soup .
Best part is licking /sucking the mango seed.
NOTES
- Luvd the flavour of fresh coriander leaves + raw garlic + tangy mango etc etc.
- Jaggery is optional – can add toha khatta meetha nd teekha taste.
- You can also add the skin.
