Healthy drumstick stew recipe

Drumstick is one of those rare plant species whose seeds, flowers, leaves, and stems are edible and extremely nutritious. Moringa commonly referred to as drumstick is treated as a ‘super plant’ for its unique yet powerful properties that combat different ailments in our system. This nutrient-dense plant has its roots in Ayurveda and was used as a medicine by our ancestors.

This particular veggie offers all type of nutritional advantages and in addition cures numerous health conditions. Drumstick, from the stems, leaves and seeds are recognized to have got therapeutic qualities.

Buy tender drumsticks .It is best to avoid purchasing those ones that have somewhat bigger bumps.They are older drumsticks, and may even taste bitter in comparison to the younger fresher ones. Try to choose greenish skinned drumsticks, particularly those with a smooth skin.

POWERFUL HEALTH BENEFITS OF DRUMSTICKS

  1. Rich source of vitamins and minerals.
  2. Drumstick leaves are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals.
  3. Regulates blood sugar levels.
  4. The high blood sugar level is the main characteristic of diabetes, which in turn leads to heart diseases.
  5. Helps to purify the blood.
  6. Boosts immunity.
  7. Helps in developing stronger bones.
  8. A study published in the American Journal of Neuroscience reveals that drumstick exhibited amazing aphrodisiac property and improves the testosterone levels, increasing sexual virality and libido.
  9. Furthermore, Ayurveda recommends including drumstick flowers to improve the sperm count and treat ED.
Drumstick stew recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • Drumstick flesh – 2 cup
  • Thinly sliced onion – 1
  • 1 + 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1/4 inch cinnamon
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cardamom
  • 2 cloves
  • black pepper – ½ tsp
  • 3 green chilli
  • Curry leaves – few
  • ginger grated – 2 tsp
  • salt
  • 1 ½ cup coconut milk

PREPARATION

Scrape the flesh from the drumstick .

METHOD 

Heat 1 tbsp coconut oil

Add  cinnamon + bay leaf + cardamom + cloves + black pepper and stir fry .[ don’t burn it ]

Add green chillies and grated ginger + curry leaves • Stir fry for 1 minute

Add onion and stir fry till translucent .

Add the scraped drumstick +salt  and mix well .

Stir fry for a min .

Add 1 cup water and mix well .

Cover partly and cook till soft •

Stir in between .

Add coconut milk and mix well .

Simmer for a min ,add coconut oil + curry leaves and off the flame .

*Don’t boil it ,else it will curdle .

Serve hot with rice or any southindian breakfast like dosa / idli / appam /idiyappam etc .

NOTES

  1. Use fresh coconut
  2. The colour has to be white , so avoid browning of onion .
  3. It should not be very watery .
  4. Coconut oil enhances the flavour .
  5. The same recipe goes for egg / chicken / potato stew
  6. You can add ¼ tsp turmeric for yellow gravy .
  7. You can add whole drumstick , but kids make fuss about eating so I made with drumstick flesh .
