Chhuri khichdi/ Dry khichdi / khichani / Moong wale chawar /dal khichuri

Split green gram is cooked as any other dal is cooked. It can be pressure-cooked along with chopped onions, tomatoes, chillies and ginger-garlic paste, and then tempered with jeera in ghee. Split lentils don’t hold their shape well, so they’re often cooked into soups or purées.
Mung beans are high in nutrients and antioxidants, which may provide health benefits. In fact, they may protect against heat stroke, aid digestive health, promote weight loss and lower “bad” LDL cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
Dal khichdi’ or ‘Dal khichuri’ is a comfort food for many . It works wonders when you are sick or just want a light meal. It is healthy , low calorie, gluten – free,vegan and very tasty.
A very Simple yet rich in taste,it can be cooked easily by all and bachelors. Here is a simple recipe for an instant khichdi or Moong wale chawar- Lentil rice.
This recipe is cooked in Sindhi households in summer for dinner. This rice specialty is served with fried potatoes, diced mangoes and a big bowl of yogurt. You can skip the yogurt and eat it with any curry if you want to eat vegan. Moong ware chawar is simple yet tasty.
Ingredients
• 1/3 cup moong dal
• 1 cup rice any but not basmati ( try to use small grains)
• 1 tbsp oil/ ghee
• Salt to taste
• 2+ 2/3 cups of hot water(Double amount of water)

Method
1. Clean, wash and Soak dal and rice together for ½ an hour. Rinse once again.
2. In a wide pan, heat oil and add dal rice mixture and gently stir fry for a minute so the mixture is nicely coated with oil. Add salt and mix.
3. Add water. Allow to cook until water evaporates.
4. Then cover with lid and lower the flame. Cook it for more 5 mins or until done.
5. This khichdi is a ultimate combo for sindhi authentic sai bhaji, turi bhasar, seyal bhaji.
VARIATION –
We can add 1 tsp jeera + a generous pinch of asafoetida in the oil .
Also we can add few whole garam masala for pulao taste .
