Soaked chana dal for idli and dosa

This chana dal chutney is simple and easy to make. You can serve it for breakfast or lunch. Chana dal chutney may be served as a main accompaniment to southindian breakfast .

INGREDIENTS

  • Chana dal – ¼ cup
  • Green chilli – 4
  • Garlic – 1 or 2
  • Coriander leaves – ¼ cup
  • Salt
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves – few

METHOD

Roast the dal for 5  mins , drizzle few drops of oil .

Once cooled, soak it .

Soak for 4 hrs or overnight .

Next day drain the water and transfer to mixie jar .

Add the other ingredients and grind

Add ¼ cup water and grind into fine  chutney.

Adjust consistency as per tase whether thin or thick .

Transfer to serving bowl .

Prepare the tempering and pour over the chutney .

NOTES

  1. Taste the chutney and see if you like it , if not then just add 2 tbsp fresh grated coconut and grind.Chutney similar to restaurant will be ready .
  2. The chutney has to be spicy ,adjust accordingly .
  3. You may make variations in color and taste by adding green chilies and coriander leaves or reddish chutney with red chilies.
  4. There is not only change in color but in taste too. One thing is for sure, every chutney recipe makes your meal yummier.
  5. Generally green chilies and coriander leaves(cilantro) are used for this chutney which gives it a lovely green color.
  6. For tanginess we may add raw mango or lemon juice .
