TIL GUL POLI

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 cup – Maida
  • Salt to knead the dough
  • 1 cup – jaggery
  • 1 cup – chana dal flour / besan
  • 1/2 cup –  til /white sesame seeds
  • 1/2 cup – peanuts
  • 1/2 cup –  dry coconut
  • 1 tsp – cardamom powder
  • 2 or 3 tbsp hot oil to knead the dough
  • Ghee to roast the poli

PREPARATION OF STUFFING

  1. Dry roast coconut + sesame seeds + peanuts all separately one by one .
  2. Remove the skin of the peanuts .
  3. Once the ingredients cool ,grind the coconut + sesame + peanuts into a a coarse pwdr .
  4. Also roast the besan by adding 1 or 2 tbsp  oil till golden .
  5. Mix the besan + the coconut pwder + grated jaggery + cardamom pwdr  and blend it once .
  6. Stuffing for polis are ready .This stuffing can be stored for months ,and used when required .

PREPARATION OF DOUGH

Take flour + salt + 2 or 3 tbsp hot oil and mix well .

Now gradually add water and knead it into a stiff dough .

Cover and keep aside for 20 mins .

METHOD FOR MAKING POLIS

Take a dough ball and roll it into a small poori size.

Take a portion of the stuffing , roll it into a ball and keep in the centre .[ if the stuffing is crumbly – you can add few drops of water or milk  and mix it ]

Bring the edges together and seal it ,remove excess dough .Be careful .

Roll it gently like parathas by dusting dry flour .[ make small polis ]

Place it on a hot tava / pan .

Roast on both sides till golden .

Apply ghee and remove from pan .

**** for crispy polis – applt ghee and roast on low flame .

NOTES

  1. You can also add poppy seeds .
  2. Instead of maida you can make with wheat flour or half of each flour .
  3. You can also add nutmeg pwdr .
  4. I have added more besan to make rolling easy .
  5. You can microwave the stuffing for 30 secs to make binding better .
