Soft gourd /galka /ghosalychi dal
SOFT GOURD / GALKA / GILKA / GHOSALYACHI / SILK GOURD /DAL
INGREDIENTS
- Moong dal – 1/2 cup
- Galka [ tender ones ] – 2 medium size or 2 cup chopped
- Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
- Green chilli chopped – 3 or 4 or as per taste
- Salt to taste
- Oil + ghee – 1 1/2 tbsp
- Mustard seed – 1 tsp
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Grated ginger and garlic – 1 tbsp [ optional ]
- Asafoetida – a generous pinch
- Curry leaves – few
- Finely chopped coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
- Red chilli broken – 1
- Lemon juice – 1/2 tsp
PREPARATION
- Clean ,wash ,rinse and soak the dal for 20 mins.
- Peel the gourd and chop it into small pieces.
- Pressure cook the soaked dal + chopped gourd + green chilli + turmeric + salt + water upto 3 or 4 whistles.
METHOD
Once the cookers pressure releases , open it and mix .[ no need to mash ]
Add hot water if required .
Heat oil + ghee in a kadai , add mustard seeds + jeera and let it splutter.
Add grated ginger garlic and fry till light brown .
Add curry leaves + red chilli .
Add coriander leaves and stir .
Add the cooked dal and mix well.
Simmer on low flame for a minute .
Finally add the lemon juice ,mix well and off the flame .
Galka dal is ready to serve .
Serve with rice + any side dish.
NOTES
- Same recipe can be done with dudhi /ridge gourd / pumpkin etc .
- I have not added onion or tomato – you can add while cooking the dal or fry while tempering .
- This dal is very plain and yummy.
