Tangy prawns curry
TANGY PRAWNS CURRY [ WITHOUT COCONUT ]
INGREDIENTS .
- Prawns – 250 gms [ 20 nos]
- Onion – 1
- Tomato – 2
- Green chilli – 1 or 2 slit
- Chilli pwdr – 2 tsp or as per taste
- Coriander pwdr – 3 tsp
- Garam masala – ¼ tsp
- Turmeric pwdr – ½ tsp
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Tamarind – lemon size or as per the sourness you want
- Curry leaves – few
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Fenugreek seeds – ¼ tsp
- Salt as per taste
METHOD
Clean the prawns by removing the shell and veins. Wash it well . Marinate it with little salt and turmeric pwdr and keep aside for marination.
Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of warm or hot water and extract the juice . [ microwave for 30 secs ]
Heat oil , add mustard seed and allow it to crackle .
Add fenugreek seeds and fry for few seconds .[ don’t burn it ]
Add curry leaves + onion + green chilli , fry till translucent .
Add tomatoes + salt and cook till oile separates .
Add turmeric + chilli pwdr + coriander pwdr + garam masala + salt and fry till raw smell leaves.
add tamarind juice and cook for 2 mins.
Add 2 cupp water and cook for 5 mins .
Add the marinated prawns and mix well.
Cook for 10 mins , till the prawns are cooked and the gravy thickens and oil floats on the top.
Never over cook prawns else it becomes rubbery .
Garnish with curry leaves or coriander leaves.
Serve hot .
NOTES
- Adjust water as per the consistency you want thick or thin.
- Soak the tamarind in hot water for sometime and then extract the juice.
- Add masalas as per your taste.
- Non veg taste better , when spicy.
- I have made paste of onion + tomato + ginger garlic paste , you can also chop finely and add.
- Instead of regular onions try shallots for more taste.
- You can reduce tamarind and add raw mangoes.
- You can also add any veges like potato or drumstick.
- Add 3 – 4 big green chilli whole .
- You can fry the prawns till half cooked and add.
- Use coconut oil for more flavour.
