EASY FISH CURRY

Easy fish curry

INGREDIENTS

  • Any fish – 300 gms [ with firm flesh and fresh ]
  • Tamarind – lemon size soaked in 1 cup hot water
  • Freshly grated coconut – 1 cup
  • Onion chopped – 1
  • Tomato chopped – 2 small
  • Red chilli pwdr – 1 1/2 tsp or as per taste
  • Coriander pwdr – 4 tsp
  • Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Green chilli slit – 2
  • Oil – 1tbsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Methi / fenugreek seeds –  1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few

PREPARATION

  1. Clean ,wash and rinse the fish . Apply little salt + turmeric all over and keep aside for some time.
  2. Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of hot water for sometimes and extract the juice.
  3. Take a mixie jar , add coconut + onion + tomato + red chilli pwdr + coriander pwdr + turmeric pwdr + salt and grind it to a fine paste . Add the tamarind extract and again blend it well .

METHOD

Take the coconut paste in a pan / pot  , add  4 cup of water to the paste and mix well.

Adjust salt if required .

Keep the pan on medium high flame .

After the first boil , let it boil for more 5 mins .

Add the fish + green chilli  and gently mix well  .

Cover the pot half and cook for 15 minutes till the fish is cooked and the gravy reduces to a thick gravy . Gravy should reduce by 1 cup  .

**Cooking time for fish depends on the thickness of the fish piece .

Lower the flame .

In another small pan heat 1 tbsp oil .

Add mustard seeds and let it crackle .

Add methi seeds + curry leaves .[methi seeds should not burn else it will give bitter taste .

Add this tempering over the gravy ,cover the pan and off the flame .

**The gravy thickens on cooling.

Serve with plain rice.

Tastes better when kept for sometimes or had the other day .

NOTES

  • Adjust chilli pwdr as per taste .
  • Instead of adding different masala pwdrs ,wecan use readyfish curry masala pwdr.[ eastern / acchi fish masala pwdr ]
  • Use coconut oil of tempering ,for more flavour .
