CHOW CHOW CURRY RECIPE /CHAYOTE GRAVY FOR RICE /CHOW CHOW KUZHAMBU
INGREDIENTS
- Chow chow vegetable – 1
- Freshly grated coconut – 2 tbsp
- Onion – 1
- Tomato – 1 big
- Coriander seeds – 2 tsp
- Jeera seeds – 1 tsp
- Red chilli – 3 or as per taste
- Pepper corn – ¼ tsp
- Cinnamon – small piece
- Clove – 2
- Salt to taste
TO TEMPER
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Asafoetida – pinch
PREPARATION
- Peel the chow chow , discard the seed and chop into small pieces .
- Heat a pan and add + coriander seeds + red chilli + cumin seeds + pepper + cinnamon + cloves and dry roast .
- Now add coconut and fry for a minute. Lastly add onion + tomato and stir fry for a min .
- Off the flame and allow to cool.
- Grind into smooth paste by adding little water .
METHOD
Heat oil in a cooker and splutter the mustard seeds.
Add asafoetida + curry leaves and give a mix.
Add chow chow + turmeric and stir fry for a min .
Add the paste and mix well .
Stir fry for a min .
Add roughly 1 cup water + salt and mix well .
Pressure cook upto 2 whistles on medium flame .
Once the pressure is released, open and give a nice mix .
Finally garnish with coriander leaves ,
Serve hot .
