CHOW CHOW CURRY  RECIPE /CHAYOTE GRAVY FOR RICE /CHOW CHOW KUZHAMBU

INGREDIENTS

  • Chow chow vegetable – 1
  • Freshly grated coconut – 2 tbsp
  • Onion – 1
  • Tomato – 1 big
  • Coriander seeds – 2 tsp
  • Jeera seeds – 1 tsp
  • Red chilli – 3 or as per taste
  • Pepper corn – ¼ tsp
  • Cinnamon – small piece
  • Clove – 2
  • Salt to taste

TO TEMPER

  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Asafoetida – pinch

PREPARATION

  1. Peel the chow chow , discard the seed and chop into small pieces .
  2. Heat a pan and add +  coriander seeds + red chilli + cumin seeds +  pepper + cinnamon + cloves and dry roast .
  3. Now add coconut and fry for a minute. Lastly add onion + tomato and stir fry for a min .
  4. Off the flame and allow to cool.
  5. Grind into smooth paste by adding little water .

METHOD

Heat oil in a cooker and splutter the mustard seeds.

Add asafoetida + curry leaves and give a mix.

Add chow chow + turmeric and stir fry for a min .

Add the paste and mix well .

 Stir fry for a min .

 Add roughly 1 cup water + salt   and mix well .

Pressure cook upto 2 whistles on medium flame .

Once the pressure is released, open and give a nice mix .

Finally garnish with coriander leaves ,

 Serve hot .
