Boiled eggs recipe is a simple recipe which can be a protein booster in the morning or as a mid meal time snack. But though the boiled eggs seems simple enough to prepare, we can either undercook or overcook the eggs.

Eggs are one of the most versatile foods in the world of gastronomy – add them to your salad and voila, you have an excellent  protein rich breakfast / meal  ready for you.  You can serve it as your side dish in dinner.

One of the best sources of protein and can be made in a jiffy, boiled eggs are  popular  when it comes to a scrumptious breakfast, lunch, snack or even dinner. Boiled eggs are packed with rich nutrients like proteins, vitamins, minerals along with essential fatty acids, eggs are replete with health-benefiting properties

INGREDIENTS

  • Eggs – 2
  • Salt – 1/4 tsp [ optional ]
  • Pan with lid
  • Water

METHOD

Take eggs in a pan. Add enough water into it so that the eggs are immersed completely and in a single layer. **do not pile the eggs one on top of another. Also,  make sure that the water level is just ½ or 1 inch  above the eggs level .

Keep on high flame and let the water boil.

 Bring the water to a full rolling boil.

Cover the pan and off the flame .

Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10 to 12 mins.

Drain off the hot water and run cold water over the eggs.

Remove the eggs , peel off the shell , after peeling rinse again in case there are any bits of small eggs shells still clinging..

While serving slice the boiled eggs , season with salt /chilli pwdr / pepper and the boiled eggs recipe is good to be eaten.

You can carry a boiled egg along with lunch to office, college or school.

The best part is that once you learn how to make boiled eggs at home, you can always store boiled eggs [ don’t peel ]  in your fridge, ready to use in any gravies etc

TIP – If you find difficult to peel, try cracking the shells all around without peeling them and soaking the eggs in water for a while. The water often seems to seep in enough under the shell to make the egg easier to peel. .

WHY IS SALT ADDED – egg white solidifies more quickly in hot salty water. It  minimizes the mess if your egg springs a leak while cooking. The egg white solidifies when it hits the salt water, sealing up the crack so that the egg white doesn’t leak .

NOTES

  1. . You can check the freshness of eggs by putting them carefully and slowly in a glass of plain water. If the egg settles at the bottom, they’re fresh and are good to consume. If they float partially or completely, discard them as they are stale
  2.  boiling eggs for too long can result in cracked shells, tough whites, and green-gray, sulfuric-smelling yolks while cooking for short time makes it soft boiled one with runny yolk. So check the time while boiling eggs .
  3. Boiled eggs should be used within two hours if kept at room temperature or can be used for a week if kept refrigerated with the shell.
  4. If you need soft boiled eggs, switch off at 8 minutes; or you can continue to boil eggs for 12 minutes for perfectly cooked hard boiled eggs.
  5. You can immediately take the eggs out from a slotted spoon and put them in ice cold water to curb further cooking.
  6. Don’t use aluminium vessel to boil eggs .
  7. Some people advise to add a little baking soda to the water while preparing hard boil eggs. The theory here is to make the water more alkaline. As explained, in an alkaline medium it is more easy to remove the shells.
  8. Fresh eggs are diffcult to peel. So use egg’s a few days old. If you are using fresh egg’s add little baking soda for making the peeling easier.
  9. The quickest way to distinguish between an uncooked egg and a boiled egg is by spinning it. If the egg spins easily, it is a hard boiled egg but if it continues to slowly rotate or wobble, then it is raw.
