Instant oats idli recipe
INSTANT OATS IDLI RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
- Oats – 1 cup
- Rava – ½ cup
- Curd – 1/2 cup [thick]
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Eno pwdr – ¾ tsp
- Enough water for making the batter
PREPARATION
- Roast the oats on low flame for minutes and grind it into a fine pwdr.
- Roast the rava on low flame for 5 mins.
- Grease the idli plates.
METHOD
Mix the rava + powdered oats.
Add yogurt + salt and mix well with hands so that no lumps are formed.
Add 1 cup water and make it into a thick idli batter and keep aside for 15 mins or more .
After 15 mins adjust the consistency of batter by adding 3 or 4 tbsp water as the rava absorbs moisture .
Keep the idli cooker with water on medium flame.
Mix the eno pwdr in the batter and mix well till bubbles appear.
Immediately, pour the batter into the idli mould and place it in the cooker and steam it for 10 -12 mins.
Once done allow it to cool.
Demould the idlis and serve it hot with any SouthIndian accompaniments.
VARAIATION
Heat oil in a pan .
Add mustard seeds + chana dal + urad dal and let it fry.
Add grated ginger + carrot + cooked peas + fried broken cashew + coriander leaves.
Add this tempering with veges into the batter and continue with the above method.
NOTES
- Imp * – Don’t let the batter sit after adding the eno pwdr, immediately steam it.
- As rava and oats both are dry in texture , i have added oil in the batter .
- You can add veges of your choice also.
- instead of regular rava we can use wheat rava .
- While roasting the rava and oats it should not change colour.
- Allow the water to boil before placing the idli stand.
- The idli can be stored in fridge and reheated in microwave the next day.
- Let the quantity of rava be less or it would taste like rava idli.
- Instant of eno you can add 1/2 tsp or 1/2 tsp of baking soda.
- The batter should not be very thick or thin ,it should be of pouring consistency.
- I have used quaker oats
