MIXED DAL IDLI RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
- Idli rice – 1/2 cup
- Moong dal – 1/4 cup
- Tuvar dal – 1/4 cup
- Masoor dal – 1/4 cup
- Chana dal – 1/4 cup
- Whole skinless urad dal – 1/2 cup
- Fenugreek seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Poha – fist ful
- Salt to taste
PREPARATION
Wash the rice + masoor + moong + chana dal + tuvar well and soak it for 5 hrs.
Wash and soak the urad dal + methi seeds for 3 to 4 hrs .
Add poha to the soaked rice just 10 mins before grinding .
Drain and grind the soaked urad dal it into a fine smooth batter by adding very little water.
Transfer to a pot.
Now grind the dal and rice .
Transfer this to the urad dal paste .
The batter should be of regular idli batter consistency . [neither too thick or too thin]
Add salt and mix well with hands.
Ferment it overnight or for 10 hrs. Because of the dals ,the batter ferments fast .
METHOD
Again mix the fermented batter .Don’t over mix .
Grease the idli mould.
Keep the idli cooker with water to boil on medium flame.
Pour the batter into the idli moulds and place it in the cooker.
Steam it for 10 -12 minutes.
Once done allow it to cool.
Demould the idlis and serve it hot with any SouthIndian accompaniments.
VARIATION – You can soak all the ingredients together and grind also .
