Spring onion with moong dal recipe
SPRING ONION WITH MOONG DAL
INGREDIENTS
- Spring onion – 1 bunch
- Yellow skinless split moong dal – ½ cup
- Onion – 1 finely chopped
- Garlic – 2 cloves finely chopped
- Asafoetida -2 pinch
- Chopped green chilli – 2 or as per taste
- Turmeric pwdr – 1/4 tsp
- Jeera + mustard seed – 1 tsp
- Oil – 1 tbsp or as required.
- Freshly grated coconut – ¼ cup
PREPARATION
Finely chop the spring onions .[both the greens and the onion separately]
Wash and Soak the dal for ½ an hr OR even cook till half done OR soak in hot water OR microwave it.
METHOD —
Heat oil in a pan ,add mustard seeds + jeera and let it splutter.
Add the both the onions + garlic + green chilli and saute till translucent .
Add turmeric pwdr + asafoetida.
Add the drained dal + salt and sprinkle little water .
Cook for 1 min on medium flame.
Now add the chopped spring onion leaves , mix well .
Cover and cook till the dal and leaves become soft.
Keep stirring so that it doesn’t stick to the bottom.
If required sprinkle water.
Once done when water is completely absorbed ,add the freshly grated coconut and mix well.
Serve as a side dish.
NOTES
You can try this recipe with other leafy vegetables.
You can add amchur pwdr or tomatoes.
