Tomato chutney for idli and dosa
TOMATO CHUTNEY FOR IDLI AND DOSA
INGREDIENTS
- Onion roughly chopped – 1
- Tomato roughly chopped – 2 big
- Red chilli – 5 or 6 or as per taste
- Garlic – 3 clove
- Chana dal – 1 tbsp
- Oil – 1 tsp + 2 tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Mustard seeds + urad dal – 1 tsp
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Salt to taste
METHOD
Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan on medium flame , add chana dal and roast till golden. [don’t burn ]
Then add red chillis + garlic + onion + tomato + curry leaves and fry till tomatoes turn soft . [add each ingredient and roast for sometime ,then add the other – one by one as shown in pic ]
Allow it to cool .
Take this mixture in a mixie jar with salt .
Grind it to a fine paste .
**** While grinding add 1 or 2 tbsp of water .
Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.
Heat 2 tsp oil in a small pan ,add mustard seed + urad dal + curry leaves + asafoetida and fry for few seconds .
Add this tempering into the chutney and mix well .
Serve as accompaniment for SouthIndian breakfast .
