INGREDIENTS

  • Tamarind – 1 small lemon size
  • Ripe Tomato roughly chopped – 1
  • Garlic – 3 clove
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Pepper corns – 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida – a pinch
  • Coriander leaves chopped – ¼ cup
  • Rasam pwdr – 1 tbsp
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil – 1 tsp

PREPARATION

  1. Grind or crush the the garlic + cumin + pepper corns into coarse mixture.
  2. Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of hot water and extract the juice.
  3. Grind the tomato into fine paste.

FOR RASAM POWDER

INGREDIENTS 

  • Coriander seed – 1 tsp
  • Pepper – 1 tsp
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Red chilli – 1 or 2 / as per taste
  • Methi seeds – ½ tsp
  • Tuvar dal – 1 tbsp
  • Chana dal – 1tbsp

Roast all the above ingredients one by one and grind it into a fine pwdr.You can also add turmeric pwdr.

METHOD

Boil the tamarind juice + tomato puree + asafeotida + salt + ½ cup of water.

When it starts to boil ,add the rasam pwdr and cook till the raw small leaves. [5 mins]

Add more 2 cup of water and boil.

Meanwhile heat  1 tsp oil and fry the garlic + pepper + cumin mixture.

Add this mixture to the boiling rasam mix well ,again when it starts to boil ,off the flame .

Garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve hot with rice with any side dish or serve it as a soup.

NOTES

  1. Coriander is must instead of chopping you can break it with stems and add.
  2. You can also add 3 tbsp of cooked dal or its water.
  3. You can also ½ tsp of sugar.
  4. It can be consumed as a soup.
