Rice fryums recipe

                                                                                        VADAM OR FRYUMS MADE FROM LEFT OVER RICE.

INGREDIENTS

  • Left over rice – 3 cup
  • Salt as per taste
  • Chilli pwdr – ½ tsp

METHOD

Grind the left over rice with all the ingredients to a fine smooth paste.

Fill the chakli press with this mixture.

Press it on a cotton cloth or plastic sheet or any plates.

Dry it under hot sun till there is no moisture.

When dried on one side ,turn the other side also.

Time taken depends upon the sunlight.

As I have taken fine sevai mould of chakli press, so it dried fast within one day.

If you are  taking some other mould with big holes like star or ribbon ,then you have to dry it for 2 or 3 days.

Once it has completely dried store it and use it when ever needed.

Deep fry it till it completely swells or puffs up.

VARIATION  you can soak the cooked rice over night in water,next day drain and squeeze the water before grinding.

NOTES

  1. Don’t add water while grinding.
  2. You can add different type of masalas and spices to it while grinding or after grinding – jeera, onion, green chillies, asafoetida, tomato paste or ketchup, garlic,roasted jeera pwdr.
  3. Add turmeric pwdr for colour
  4. To check whether the FRYUMS are dried well ,fry one or two pieces. if it puffs well and turns crispy it means it has dried up well.
  5. If its not dried well then it will stick to your teeth.
  6. Instead of pressing through chakli press you can make small small bits of it also OR use a piping bag.
  7. If its not dried up well the preheat the oven [180] let it be inside the hot preheated oven for 15 mins.
  8. If its not dried well fungus may grow on it.
  9. Use parboiled rice[ UKDA CHAWAL ].
  10. For crunchiness let the paste be coarse instead of smooth.
  11. You can also add soaked sago [sabudana] while grinding.
