Solkadi recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • Kokum – 7 or 8 pieces
  • Coconut grated – 1 medium size
  • finely chopped green chilly –1 or 2
  • Garlic – 5 or 6 or as per taste
  • sugar – 1/4 tsp
  • finely chopped coriander leaves
  • few curry leaves torn into bits
  • salt as per taste

METHOD

Take the grated coconut + kokum + garlic + green chilli and grind first without water .

Now add 1 cup warm water [not hot ] and grind well.

Strain and extract the thick coconut juice .

Now again take the coconut remaining from the strainer ,transfer to mixie jar .

Add 2 or 21/2 cup water and blend again .

Again strain this .

Now adjust salt + 1/4 tsp sugar .

Add coriander leaves + curry leaves.

Stir well and serve to drink .

NOTES

  1. Adjust water as per the consistency [ thickness] you want.
  2. We can add roasted jeera pwdr – 1/4 tsp  [optional ]
  3. Don’t store kokum at home as it looses the colour ,buy it when ever required to get the pink colour .
  4. It is good for digestion. Specially after eating non -veg dishes.
  5. You can add crushed garlic ,it enhances the flavour .
  6. U can also add chaat masala.
  7. Before serving you can refrigerate it.
  8. Instead of coconut milk you can mix the kokum extract with chaas /buttermilk [thin beaten curd]. Refer here for recipe – Kokum buttermilk
  9. You can also temper it with ghee , jeera and hing and serve it with hot steam rice as a gravy. Dont boil after tempering.
