Pulses or lentils are rich in protein, fibre and iron. That’s why, eating dal every day can help you stay healthy and fit. Love it or hate it, but you can’t go without a katori of dal, especially when you’ve grown up in India.
Putting together a variety of lentils is a great idea to turn your regular dal into a more vibrant one, which is also protein-rich.
Dal or lentil is a staple dish in almost all Indian households; in fact it is prepared every day in most of them. With so many varieties of dals available, it is possible to make different dal each time to go with the rest of the meal. Dal is one of the best sources of proteins in a vegetarian diet. Every Indian kitchen has different kinds of dals stocked up at all times. Imagine a dish combining the goodness and deliciousness of different dals.
This mixed dal vada made with different kind of dals packs a punch of nutritious and flavours in your snack.
INGREDIENTS
- ½ cup Chana dal
- ¼ cup urad dal
- ¼ cup Masoor dal
- ¼ cup moong dal
- ¼ cup tuvar dal
- Salt
- 5 or 6 or as per taste green chilli
- 1 small Ginger piece
- 8 to 10 garlic
- ¼ cup Coriander leaves chopped
- 1 tsp jeera
- 1 tsp fennel seeds / saunf
- Oil for frying
METHOD
Wash and soak all dals together for 4 hours.
Strain all dals from water.
Grind dals along with green chilli + garlic + ginger + jeera + saunf into a coarse mixture .
Don’t add water while grinding .
Transfer the mixture to a bowl .
Mix in salt + coriander leaves .
Heat oil in a pan .
Make the pakoras of any shapes and deep fry .
Serve hot with green chutney / sauce .
