EASY RASAM RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
- Tamarind – 1 small lemon size
- Ripe Tomato roughly chopped – 1
- Garlic – 3 clove
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Pepper corns – 1 tsp
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Coriander leaves chopped – ¼ cup
- Rasam pwdr – 1 tbsp
- Salt as per taste
- Oil – 1 tsp
PREPARATION
- Grind or crush the the garlic + cumin + pepper corns into coarse mixture.
- Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of hot water and extract the juice.
- Grind the tomato into fine paste.
FOR RASAM POWDER
INGREDIENTS
- Coriander seed – 1 tsp
- Pepper – 1 tsp
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Red chilli – 1 or 2 / as per taste
- Methi seeds – ½ tsp
- Tuvar dal – 1 tbsp
- Chana dal – 1tbsp
Roast all the above ingredients one by one and grind it into a fine pwdr.You can also add turmeric pwdr.
METHOD
Boil the tamarind juice + tomato puree + asafeotida + salt + ½ cup of water.
When it starts to boil ,add the rasam pwdr and cook till the raw small leaves. [5 mins]
Add more 2 cup of water and boil.
Meanwhile heat 1 tsp oil and fry the garlic + pepper + cumin mixture.
Add this mixture to the boiling rasam mix well ,again when it starts to boil ,off the flame .
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve hot with rice with any side dish or serve it as a soup.
NOTES
- Coriander is must instead of chopping you can break it with stems and add.
- You can also add 3 tbsp of cooked dal or its water.
- You can also ½ tsp of sugar.
- It can be consumed as a soup.
