                                       CHUTNEY IDLI  [ Idlis dunked in chutney ]

INGREDIENTS

  • Mini idlis – 12 or 14
  • Freshly grated coconut – ¼ cup
  • Green chilli – 3 or 4 or as per taste
  • Garlic – 1
  • Onion finely chopped – 2 tbsp or shallots 5
  • Mustard seeds + urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Milk or water – 4 tbsp
  • Oil – 2 tsp + 1 tsp ghee
  • Daria / fried gram – 2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste

METHOD

Finely grind coconut + green chilli + daria dal  + garlic + ¼ cup water by adding little water.

Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds + urad dal and let it splutter.

Add onions + curry leaves ,fry them till light golden brown.

Lower the flame.

Pour the coconut paste + ¾ cup water + salt .[ add water accordingly as it thickens ]

Stir and bring it to a boil .

Add the idlis and mix well .

Simmer on low flame for a minute .

Once done transfer to a serving bowl .

Garnish with coriander leaves.

VARIATION – same recipe can be done with uttapa, chop the uttappa [thick dosa ] and add.

NOTES

  1. This recipe is just like vada
  2. Chutney can be thick or thin ,so add water accordingly .
  3. Similar way we can do with idli + sambar .
