Rasam vada

FOR THE RASAM

INGREDIENTS

  • Tamarind – 1small lemon size
  • Ripe Tomato roughly chopped – 1
  • Garlic -3 clove
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Pepper corns -1tsp
  • Asafeotida – a pinch
  • Coriander leaves chopped – ¼ cup
  • Rasam pwdr -1tbsp
  • Salt as per taste
  • Ghee / oil – 1 tsp

PREPARATION

  1. Grind or crush the the garlic + cumin + pepper corns into coarse mixture.
  2. Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of hot water.
  3. Grind the tomato into fine paste.

FOR RASAM POWDER

  • Coriander seed – 1tsp
  • Pepper – 1tsp
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Red chilli – 1 or 2 as per taste
  • Methi seeds – ½ tsp
  • Tuvar dal – 1 tbsp
  • Chana dal – 1tbsp

Roast all the above ingredients one by one and grind it into a fine pwdr.You can also add turmeric pwdr.

METHOD

Boil the tamarind juice + tomato puree + asafeotida +salt + ½ cup of water.

When it starts to boil add the rasam pwdr and cook till the raw small leaves. [5 mins]

Add more 2 cup of water and boil.

Meanwhile heat  1tsp ghee or oiland fry the garlic + pepper + cumin mixture.

Add this mixture to the boiling rasam mix well ,agin when it starts to boil ,off the flame .

Garnish with coriander leaves.

FOR RASA VADA – We can either use medu vada or dal vada.

Soak medu vada in the rasam for ½ and hour.

OR if  chana dal vada soak it for minimum 1 hr in the rasam.

While serving just warm only the rasam and serve with the soaked vadas.
