Onion tomato chutney for idli and dosa
ONION TOMATO CHUTNEY FOR IDLI AND DOSA
INGREDIENTS
- Onion chopped – 1 big
- Tomato chopped – 1 big
- Red chilli dry – 6 or 8 or as per taste
- Chana dal – 2 tsp
- Coriander seeds – 1 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Freshly grated coconut – 2 tbsp
- Jaggery – small piece
- Tamarind – a tiny piece [optional ]
- Oil – 2 tsp + 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds + urad dal – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – few
METHOD
Heat 1 tsp oil ,add the red chilli and fry .[ don’t burn ]
Remove and keep aside.
Now add chana dal and fry till light golden.
Add coriander seeds and fry for few seconds .
Add onion and fry till translucent .
Add tomatoes + salt and cook till soft .
Allow this mixture to cool .
Transfer the mixture to a mixie jar .
Add fried red chilli + coconut + jaggery .
Grind it to a fine paste by adding ¼ or ½ cup water .
*** add water as per the consistency you want .
Transfer this to a serving bowl .
Now heat 2 tsp oil ,add the mustard seeds + urad and let it crackle .
Add curry leaves ,give a mix and off the flame .
Pour this tempering over the chutney .
Chutney is ready to be served with any South Indian break fast .
NOTES
- While grinding ,you can also add 2 garlic clove .
- Instead of adding coriander seeds ,you can add ½ tsp coriander pwdr or even sambar pwdr
