INGREDIENTS

  • Niger seeds – 1 cup
  • Red chilli – 7 or as per taste
  • Garlic cloves – 8 or 10
  • Tamarind – a small piece
  • Salt as per taste

METHOD

Roast the niger seeds on medium low flame for 3 -4 minutes till crispy . [don’t burn – be careful ]

Once done remove and keep aside to cool .

Roast the red chilli also.

Take the roasted niger seeds +  red chilli + tamarind + garlic + salt in a mixer jar and grind it to a coarse pwdr .

Store it in a air tight container.

Serve with kichdi .bhakri , paratha , plain rice ,dal rice ,ghee rice etc.

NOTES

  1. We can also add grated roasted dry coconut .
  2. We can also use roasted ground nut.
  3. Why not add a piece of jaggery .
  4. We can add fresh coconut and make a wet chutney and temper it .
  5. Instead of niger seeds the same recipe can be tried with sesame [til] , groundnut
  6. Instead of whole red chilli ,you can use red chilli pwdr.
  7. The same chutney can be used as stuffing for veges like ladies finger .
  8. Its good to be had in winters.
  9. Instead of grinding we can pound it .
  10. Niger seeds oil are very good for health.
