SINDHI STYLE CHANA DAL PATTIES

INGREDIENTS FOR OUTER COVERING

  • Boiled mashed aloo – 4
  • Green chilli – 1
  • Amchur podwer – ½  tsp
  • Chaat masala – ½ tsp
  • Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Red chilli pwdr – ½ tsp
  • Fresh or leftover bread slices – 4
  • Salt

METHOD

Take all the ingredients one by one in a mixing bowl.

Mix well .

Taste and adjust ingredients if needed.

INGREDIENTS FOR STUFFING

  • Chana dal – ½ cup
  • Turmeric – ¼ tsp
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Hing – generous pinch
  • Green chilli ginger paste – 1 tsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp or amchur powder ¼ tsp
  • Coriander leaves finely chopped – ¼ cup

METHOD

Soak chana dal for an hour .Presure cook with water + salt + turmeric upto 2 whistles .

Do not overcook . Drain the excess water and keep aside .

Heat oil in a pan , add jeera and let it crackle .

Add hing and give a mix .

Add green chilli paste and stir fry for few seconds .

Add boiled chana dal and mix well.

Cook 3 to 4 mins and off the flame

Finally add  lemon juice  and coriander leaves and mix well.

Cool it .

MAKE THE PATTIES

Grease your palms with some oil. Divide the potato mixture into equal portions, stuff each portion with a spoonful of Bengal gram mixture and shape into tikkis. Use any shaped moulds .

Meanwhile, heat oil in a kadhai for deep frying or in a pan for shallow frying .

Slide in the tikkis and fry on medium high  flame until they are crisp and golden from both sides.

Serve hot with sauce/dip / chutney /watery chole  .
