VAZHAKKAI VARUVAL / SIMPLE RAW BANANA FRY SOUTHINDIAN STYLE

Vitamin B6 found in green bananas aids in controlling blood glucose, especially in people with type 2 diabetes. It also helps in suppressing insulin release into the blood and helps stabilize your blood sugar levels due to high levels of fiber in it. Include green bananas in the boiled form for best results.

Green bananas contain essential minerals and nutrients that convert fat into energy, which helps increase body metabolism. They also contain nutrients like vitamin B6 which helps increase enzyme breakdown and thus boosts your metabolism.

INGREDIENTS

  • Raw banana – 2
  • Finely chopped onion – 1
  • Garlic crushed – 5
  • Chilli powder – 1 tsp or as per taste
  • Sambar powder – ½ tsp OR Garam masala powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander powder – ½ tsp
  • Turmeric – 1/8 tsp
  • Besan or rice flour – 1 tsp
  • Oil – 1 or 2  tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Fennel seeds – ½ tsp
  • Jeera – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves few
  • Salt to taste

Note – Southindian raw bananas are big in size . If using the small ones then use 4 .

METHOD

Peel the skin of the raw banana and cut into small pieces . [ chop it small ]

Put it in water to prevent browning.

Boil and cook it with turmeric + salt till soft

Don’t over cook till mushy . It should be soft and whole is shape .
Drain the excess water and keep it aside.

Heat a pan with oil .

Add  mustard seeds and let it crackle .

Add onion + curry leaves and stir fry till translucent .

add the garlic and stir fry for few seconds till raw smell leaves .

Lower the flame and add the masala powders and mix well.

Stir fry for few seconds.

Add the cooked raw banana pieces.

Add salt as needed and mix it well.

Cook it for 2 to 3 minutes on  medium flame.

Add besan + 1 tsp oil and give a nice mix to it.

Stir and cook it for 1 or 2 minute till it gets golden colour .

Finally garnish with coriander leaves and off the flame .

Serve it as a side dish .
