Chutney for idli and dosa without coconut
CHUTNEY FOR IDLI AND DOSA WITHOUT COCONUT / FRIED GRAM DAL CHUTNEY / FUTANA CHUTNEY
INGREDIENTS
- Fried gram dal / fuatana / chutney dal / daria dal – ½ cup
- Garlic – 3
- Green chilli – 4 or 5
- Salt to taste
- Water – 1 or 11/4 cup
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Curry leaves – few

METHOD
Take all the ingredients and grind first without adding water .
Later add 1 or 11/4 cup water and grind to smooth paste .
Transfer to a serving bowl .
Adjust salt if required .
Heat a small pan with2 tsp oil .
Add mustard seeds and let it crackle .
Off the flame add few curry leaves.
Pour this over the chutney and give a mix .
Serve with idli / dosa / appe /or any southindian breakfast items .
NOTES
- We can add 2 to 4 tbsp of fresh coconut also .
- We can try same recipe with red chilli .over here add a tiny piece of tamarind .
- As we are making of dal , this chutney has to be spicy . so add chilli accordingly . This chutney tastes the best if its slightly on the spicy side.
