INGREDIENTS

  • Rice – ¾ cup
  • Mixed dal – ½ cup [tuvar, massor, moong, chana dal, split green moong dal ]
  • Oil + ghee – 2 tbsp
  • Jeera – ½ tsp
  • Onion finely chopped – 1
  • Tomato finely chopped – 2
  • Green chilli chopped – 3 or as per taste
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves finely chopped – 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric pwdr – ¼ tsp
  • Chilli pwdr – ½ tsp
  • Coriander pwdr – 2 tsp
  • Salt as per taste

PREPARATION

Clean wash and soak the dal and rice together for 20 mins . If time provides soak the chana dal few hrs before.

METHOD

Heat oil + ghee in a pressure cooker  , add jeera and let it splutter.

Add onions and fry till translucent.

Add tomatoes + green chillies and fry till it oil separates.

Add turmeric + chilli pwdr + coriander pwdr + salt  , mix well and fry till raw smell leaves.

Drain the soaked rice + dal +coriander leaves and stir fry for 2 mins till it gets completely coated with the masalas.

Add 4 or 5 cup of water and cook upto 3 – 4 whistles .[ even 5 will do ]

Once done off the flame and wait for the pressure to release on its own.

Serve hot khichdi topped with ghee + papad + pickle + onion + any salad.

NOTES

  1. The khichdi has to be of loose consistency , so add water accordingly.
  2. One can also add giner garlic paste and garam masala .
  3. The khichdi has to be mushy.
  4. It has to be served hot .
