Instant rava idli

                                                                                  RAWA IDLI RECIPE

Rawa idli is a simple and healthy south indian idli recipe made with semolina or sooji batter. it is an ideal morning breakfast recipe and can be prepared without the hassle of grounding and fermenting the batter. it is made with spices and savoury and hence can be eaten as it is, but tastes great with any southindian accompaniment

Instant rava idli recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rava (suji / semolina)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida (hing)
  • 1 /2 teaspoon Urad Dal
  • 1/2 cup  curd
  • 1/2 cup Water approximately
  • Pinch of  turmeric pwdr [optional ]
  • 1 tablespoons finely chopped Coriander Leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Eno Fruit Salt .
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • Salt as required
  • Few fried cashew nuts for garnishing.

METHOD

Heat  1 tablespoon oil in a pan or kadai.

Add mustard seeds  when they start to crackle, add asafoetida and urad dal.

Sauté until dal turns light brown.

Add finely chopped coriander leaves and turmeric pwdr.

Now add rava.

Roast it on medium flame for 2 – 3 mins. [ colour should not change ]

Allow it to cool and transfer to a mixing bowl .

Add  water, salt  and curd mix well.

Grease the idli mould and keep water to boil in the steamer .

Add lemon juice +  eno pwdr to the batter and mix well till frothy .

***After adding eno pwdr ,you have to be quick.

Spoon in the batter in the idli moulds and keep it for steaming .

Steam it for 10 mins till it is done. { to check if its done, insert a knife or spoon back and it should come clean )

Remove and keep it aside for 1 min .

Demould the idlis and serve with any SouthIndian accompaniment like chutney and sambar .

NOTE

  1. You can add grated veges of your choice.
  2. After adding  eno steam it immediately.
  3. Eno gives more porous texture.
  4. Instead of eno you can use baking soda.
  5. Steam on medium flame.
  6. You can make and keep the roasted rawa with tempering ingredients  in fridge and use it when required to save time .
