Fried onion chutney
FRIED ONION CHUTNEY
INGREDIENTS
- Onion sliced – 1 big
- Red chilli – 5 or as per taste [ not less]
- Salt to taste
- Curry leaves – few [optional ]
- Tamarind – a tiny piece
- Oil – 1 tbsp
METHOD
Heat oil in a pan.
Add the red chilli + curry leaves and fry till brown. [ don’t burn it ]
Remove and keep aside .
Fry the onions till golden brown.
Grind all the ingredients + salt to a coarse mixture .
***No need to add water .
Remove in a serving bowl and serve with any SouthIndian breakfast like dosa ,idli ,tapioca ,appam etc .
NOTES
- In Kerala ,they use coconut oil to fry .
- Instead of onions you can use shallots for more flavour .[small Southindian onions ]
- Add more red chilli as onion tastes sweet after frying .
- For variation you can use roasted coconut also.
- You can also use readymade fried onion or the onions deep fried which we add in biryanis.
